FEC Approves Hezekiah University

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday 29th April 2015 approved the establishment of two private universities in Nigeria one of which is the Hezekiah University in Umudi, Imo State.

This was disclosed to State House correspondents by the Minister of Information, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, at the end of the FEC meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. According to Akwashiki, the establishment of the universities was aimed at meeting the high demand for admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

She disclosed that officials of the National Universities Commission (NUC) were in attendance to brief the Council on the need for the two universities.

She said: The Minister of Education tables a memorandum to see the council’s ratification of the President’s anticipatory approval for the issuance of provisional license for the establishment of 2 more universities one being the Hezekiah University Umudi, Imo State.

The establishment of the University will address the inadequate access to university education and enrolment of students in excess of the carrying capacity of the university sector.
